Dating back to the early 19th century, Hunt Cottage is steeped in local history and was originally used as the huntsman's lodgings for the nationally renowned Pytchley Hunt, which has origins with the Spencer family at Althorp. It is reputed that both Edward VIII and George VI hunted with the Pytchley and often graced Hunt Cottage during their time in the area. It is also reported that Queen Elizabeth II is said to have learned to ride in the former grounds of the property, being coached and encouraged by the well-known and respected huntsman, Frank Freeman.
